Thistlepark Scottish Terriers
Margo Park : Florida
The kennel name Thistlepark is a combination of thistle, the national flower of Scotland and Park our last name. We originally got scotties for our sons to play with. The sport of showing dogs provided a good family atmosphere for us all to learn, have fun as well and travel.
My vision at Thistlepark was to breed the most genetically and tempermentally sound, healthy, typey scotties conforming to the standard. The welfare and happiness of every single scottie was absolutely paramount as they are show dogs for a small time in their lives but need to be beloved pets the remainder of their lives. In my opinion scotties are too smart and special to waste away in someones kennel or be one of 25 others....
Operating with integrity and respect, setting high standards and raising the bar ever higher, I have found great things can be accomplished. Looking at the facts and making logical rather than emotional decisions over the years has also lead to great successes. I have always been eager to mentor and educate for the betterment of the breed learning along the way to always be true to myself and my scotties.
Our first scottie Maggie entered our household in the 80's. She was the love of our lives growing up with our sons and gave us 2 champions including our first home bred champion, American & Canadian Ch Thistlepark Worthy Endeavor. “Fozzie” finished owner handled and groomed with all majors from the Bred by class, had numerous group placements and a Best In Show in Canada. We then went on to purchase two scottie males that both finished with all majors and gave us our first specialty win. Our first official foundation bitch bred by Linda Jones gave us the pedigree we were looking for which included the Hughcrest/Charthill line. Patty gave us champions including Ch Thistlepark Seas The Moment TT who went on to produce 48 champions and was instrumental for the breed. He also had a title at the end of his name TT. being temperament tested, sound in every way. All owner conditioned and groomed, “Ben” won numerous sweepstakes. He also finished with three 5 point majors all at specialties including Heart of America and a specialty Best In Show from the classes over top specials with professional handlers at the Houston Scottish Terrier Specialty.
Ben got his last 5 point major at the STCA national specialty at Montgomery County going Best of winners. He also won Best of Opposite at Montgomery County under a Scottish breeder judge and numerous awards of merit.
He then went on to win several more Best in Specialty Shows, numerous group wins and an all breed Best In Show all owner handled even reaching a number 2 ranking in the US.
Ben came out as an old timer and showed everyone he still had the right stuff going
Best of Breed at the Devon show Montgomery weekend while his son went WD for a 5 point major. Ben produced many specialty winners including a daughter that followed in his footsteps going WB/BW at Montgomery County. He also produced numerous group winners. His offspring down the lines continue to win at specialties and shows on the national level.
As providence would have it, I am very grateful for a wonderful friendship and partnership formed with Phil and Judy DiGirolamo when they got a Ben daughter from me, Ch Thistlepark Rose of The Moment. Rosey fulfilled all of our dreams in the ring as well as in the whelping box producing specialty winning champions including
Montgomery WD Ch Thistlepark Pjscots Boomerang finishing like his grandsire with three 5 point majors one Montgomery weekend as a pup and the other two at the STCA Spring National Specialty and again at STCA Montgomery County. He won the Canadian National Specialty and is now producing specialty and top winning champions. We have had many other specialty winners and champions. We have slowed down in the number of scotties we show to focus on winning at specialties and the toughest shows.
Thistlepark scotties are spoiled rotten with lots of toys, the best foods and care but most of all limitless love and fun… hey dress up at Halloween, march in parades, have parties and have even been models in numerous books and calenders. Two of them have even been the stars of a TV commercial for a local pet boutique.
We continue to have fun with our dogs and fun at the shows. That’s what it’s all about.
