Starting at 5 years old I have full blood panels done on all my dogs. Several years ago one of my Scotties had a severely elevated ALP & ALT. The San Francisco Bay Scottish Terrier Club had presented a liver disease seminar a couple of years before this and I went back to my files and looked at what the experts had given us. This is where I first learned about Dr. Jean Dodds’ Liver Cleansing Diet.

I went online and found the actual recipe. Since we own a fish market/seafood restaurant I asked Phil if he would have it prepared for me. He had a large batch made, put three days supply in vacuum pack bags and quick-froze it. Within 3 months I had my boy’s ALP almost at normal and his ALT will within the normal range.

I followed Dr. Dodd’s recommendation to add Milk Thistle (I use and recommend Hepato Support) to his meal (2x day, 1 cup of mixture). Since that time I have also added SAMe to one of the meals. The word of my success spread and other owners asked if they could buy the fish diet as well. So upon request we do sell it. It is all hand cut and prepared by our prep cooks with Phil overseeing it. Dr. Dodds is presently developing a commercial liver cleansing diet. She has asked me not to give the recipe out. But upon checking online it is still posted. If you are getting high liver values I strongly urge you to feed this diet. My old gals who are on this diet feel terrific—hey act like young pups—and they are not overweight. They look and feel wonderful.
